On January 27, 2003 the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union authorized Directive 2002/95/EC on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. Restriction on Hazardous Substances directive, also referred to as RoHS (“ro-has”) prohibits the use of lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr +6), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in new electrical and electronic equipment put on the market from July 1, 2006.

The European Union also adopted Directive 2002/96/EC on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) with their publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. The WEEE directive prescribes specific criteria for the collection, handling and recycling of electric and electronic waste. Requirements for WEEE go into effect on August 13, 2005.

SENA takes the initiative to meet Europe's RoHS Directive

The purpose of both directives is taking care to preserve the environment. Sena positively consents the purport of both directives. Therefore, Sena has established a RoHS compliance team consisting of supply chain, quality team, engineering, safety and environmental health and legal, and actively collaborating with industry peers and suppliers working towards compliance with the directives. Sena expects to have RoHS compliant products shipping available by 2006 Q2.

In accordance with European Standard EN 50419, SENA's products that are subject to the WEEE directive are marked with the "crossed-out wheeled bin" symbol for items shipped from SENA on or after August 13, 2005.
