CLIPPER ROUND THE WORLD

The Clipper Race is one of the biggest challenges of the natural world and an endurance test like no other. Racers pilot 70-foot ocean racing yachts through a record-breaking 40,000 nautical mile route around the world. The route of the current edition is divided into eight legs and between 13 and 16 individual races, including six ocean crossings.

The competition saw its first edition in 1996 based on the idea of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first person to sail solo non-stop around the world. Since then, almost 6,000 Race Crew from all walks of life and more than 60 nations have participated in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race; the only race in the world where the organizers supply a fleet of eleven identical racing yachts, each with a fully qualified skipper and first mate to safely guide an amateur sailing crew on an unforgettable journey.

Becoming an ocean racer and overcoming the most challenging conditions on the planet requires training. Every crew member, regardless of your previous experience, will complete a training that enables them to tackle the most challenging situations on the planet.

SENA; OFFICIAL FLEET PARTNER

Together with the compulsory training, each crew member receives the best equipment to cope safely and responsively with Mother Nature’s most unpredictable challenges. In the 2023/2024 edition, the entire crew has been equipped with a NAUTITALK BOSUN communication device supplied by Sena. The Sena Bosun will support dialogue from the helm, bow, and nav station and will also be used for rig checks in port.

Tom Adams, Head of Partnerships at the Clipper Race, attests to the effectiveness and reliability of Sena’s technology, stating, “Sena’s communication solutions have proven to be game-changers for Clipper Race Skippers, First Mates and Race Crew. The NAUTITALK BOSUN is not only user-friendly but also robust, making it an ideal choice for ocean racing sailors testing themselves against the elements. Sena’s technology and its applications are incredibly versatile and transferrable; it can undoubtedly benefit a huge range of work functions in the marine industry.”

A Clipper 70 is not a place for the faint-hearted or work-shy. There are many roles to play on deck. The race teams are trained to be a self-sufficient unit, capable of handling any situation, no matter how severe the conditions. For the success of the entire crew, communication is essential, and Sena’s technology fills this need. Thanks to their Nautitalk Bosun crew members can coordinate like a flawless machine, encourage each other to give their all, and achieve the best performance.
